Afternoon Delight

 photo IMG_6642_zps7cc576f7.jpg

This is my model look ya'll.

I love this look. I call it afternoon delight because of all the vivid colors and mixes. It just brightens my mood when I wear these beautiful colors.

Sippin on my Jamba juice and reading my W magazine all the while color cordinating with my drink.

This fit was inspired by Paris Street fashion. I added my own touch by classing it up with nude pumps and rocking out with my natural fro. It has such a rock and roll vibe, hence the name Rock Star Chic.

I have been busy trying to figure out how I am going to get the money to study abroad in Paris this September. It's 6,750 more than what I have now. I continue to go over different scenarios that help me get the money. Do you guys know of any good ideas that I can try?

Don't sweat the small stuff

The last picture is a clear look into my world right now. Ever heard of Maslow's Hierarchy of needs? Google it. My Maslow's Hierarchy of needs is being met, up until the second step. The second step is safety, which in my case is about security of employment and resources. It doesn't help that my mind is playing tricks on me, one moment I'm fine with my job, then I'm panicking about what I'm going to do next. I am using my fashion as a example of my feelings with this situation. I have on all black because I feel dark and gloomy about everything, however the rainbow colored sweater represents a brighter day and all the great things I have going for me now. The sweater overpowers the all black ensemble and makes it more fun, don't you agree?

At the end of the day focusing on things that really matter, makes all the blemishes seem so small. Lesson: Don't sweat the small stuff, life is short.

Sunglasses: I got them at Marshall's for $1. The cash rep. couldn't believe my find. She tried her hardest to have a manager override that price because it was "too low" according to her. Wish for the day:  I wish she wasn't such a hater.
Heart Necklace:I got this gold necklace a while ago from my Mom's ex. He had good taste in jewelry.
Ring:  This was a splurge purchase at Target. I love the ring, it's a statement piece.
Necklace turned Bracelet: I forgot where I got the necklace from but it worked out great as a bracelet/ ring.
Pumps: Nude/naked platform pumps I bought them at Charlotte Russe.
Ankle Bracelet: I loved my anklet. I bought it from Dillard's a while ago but, I just recently broke it... "Oh the Horror!" Now, I'm sad all over again.

This is a new beginning. Where have I been? I took time to myself without social media, the Internet and other distractions. In this time I meditated, I prayed and I patiently waited for answers. In my mind, I traveled to my past to figure out what my heart truly wanted. The answer became very clear...Fashion, I love clothes. I decided to go back to school to study Fashion, more specifically Fashion Merchandising.

Today I launched what was formally known as Tarah and the City to the new and improved Take me to Tarah. Take me to Tarah, is my opportunity to be my authentic self. I truly hope you enjoy the journey and I hope you will stay awhile. Thank you for being patient and I hope you missed me a little.  I missed you all!

Back to business, one of my favorite projects were distressing my hot pink skinny pants. It was pretty random when I did it and now I keep getting mysterious holes in them but, it works.  In case you're curious I will talk about my accessories in tomorrow's post.

Old Schools

Here in Texas we call older cars "old schools".  An old school is a car that you dress up with rims and other car accessories.  We have a tradition here in Texas for people who own old schools and the others that are smitten with them. On Sundays people like to "swang", swanging is driving really slow concurrent with swerving in a line of other old schools.  I find it a bit obnoxious, but I do enjoy looking at the different cars.  It's reminds me of looking at Christmas lights, only at this tradition the only thing shining is the gold grills amongst the participants.

I decided to do something new and fresh. I tried an old Hollywood glamour look for this shoot and it was so much fun.

Woman on a bridge

A lovely pastel bridge on the east side of Houston's downtown became my back drop for my "I mean business" shoot.  Would you believe me if I told you that right across the red brick road was a park filled with homeless people?  I loved how interested they were with what we were doing. So interested  that I actually got cussed at by one of the regulars. Long story.  This side of Houston took me out of my comfort zone, but life is all about getting outside of your own box. So, I rose to the challenge, literally. I walked up that bridge in my sky high heels and proceeded to get sun drenched as I posed my ass off.
With a black light-as-air tank, a graphic button up shirt, and my structured wide leg pants, I was a woman on a bridge.
